Pandit Gopabandhu Das, a name synonymous with selfless service and dedication to the upliftment of society, was a prominent figure in Odisha’s history. Born on October 9, 1877, in Cuttack, Odisha, Gopabandhu Das was a multifaceted personality who excelled in various fields like education, literature, social work, and journalism.

Gopabandhu Das completed his education in Cuttack and later went on to study law in Calcutta. However, he soon realized his true calling lay in serving the people and working towards their welfare. In 1909, he founded the Satyabadi School in Satyabadi, a village in Odisha, with the aim of providing modern education to the children of rural areas.

Known for his simplicity and humility, Gopabandhu Das led by example and inspired many to follow in his footsteps. He believed in the power of education to bring about social change and dedicated his life to spreading awareness about the importance of education among the masses. In addition to running the Satyabadi School, he also served as a teacher and mentor to countless students, instilling in them the values of compassion, empathy, and service to others.

Gopabandhu Das was not just a teacher and a social worker; he was also a prolific writer and journalist. He contributed to various newspapers and magazines, using his pen to raise awareness about social issues and advocate for the rights of the marginalized sections of society. His writing style was simple yet powerful, and he used it as a tool to bring about positive change in society.

One of Gopabandhu Das’s most significant contributions was his involvement in the Non-Cooperation Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. He played a crucial role in mobilizing the people of Odisha to join the freedom struggle and actively participate in the movement against British colonial rule. Despite facing numerous challenges and hardships, Gopabandhu Das remained steadfast in his commitment to the cause of freedom and democracy.

In recognition of his tireless efforts towards social reform and national awakening, Pandit Gopabandhu Das was posthumously awarded the prestigious Bharat Ratna in 1976. This was a fitting tribute to a man who devoted his entire life to serving the people and advocating for their rights.

The biography of Pandit Gopabandhu Das serves as an inspiration to all those who believe in the power of service and selflessness. His life was a testament to the fact that one person can make a significant difference in the world if they are driven by a genuine desire to bring about positive change.

In conclusion, Pandit Gopabandhu Das’s legacy continues to live on through the institutions he established and the values he espoused. He will always be remembered as a true visionary and a beacon of hope for the people of Odisha and beyond.
