Gana Kabi Baishnab Pani’s 133th birth anniversary falls on October 27. He was born in the night of Kumar Purnima in 1882 at Kothapada village in Cuttack district in a poor Brahmin family to father Sudarsan Pani and mother Chhaya Devi. He was named as Satrughna by his parents.He was an Indian writer and arranger of jatras, born at Kothapada, Mahanga, Cuttack; a type of folk-theatre in the state of Odisha. He introduced “gitinatya” (musical performance) for the first time in Odia jatra.[1] Some of his popular jatra stories include “Saudagara Farce”, “Abu Hussain Farce”, and “‘Natua Mohanty Farce”.
