A mediaeval Indian poet and composer of Odissi music from the state of Odisha, Banamali Dasa is known as an Odia bhakta. Some of his well-known works that are utilised in Odissi are “Dinabandhu daitari,” “Kede chanda jane lo sahi,” and “Manima he etiki maguni mora.” His songs are frequently performed at celebrations, in public, and during Odissi dancing. The works by Banamali, particularly the chaupadis and jananas, are very well-known in the repertory of traditional Odissi music since they are set to classic Odissi ragas and talas. He is regarded as the most important poet of mediaeval Odia bhakti literature. Beginning with writing simple devotional poetry, he subsequently moved on to creating “bhakti” poetry, which was more well-liked and accepted by other modern poets of the period. Typically, his poems are eyewitness accounts, and their simple, fervent language is much appreciated.
