Since ancient times, the settlement has been known by several names including Shreekshetra, Nilachal Kshetra, Niladei Vihar Kshetra, and Purushottam Kshetra. In the eastern Indian state of Odisha, the city and municipality of Puri is located on the seashore. It is located on the Bay of Bengal, 60 miles south of the state capital of Bhubaneswar, and serves as the district headquarters for the Puri district. In honour of the city’s Jagannath Temple, built in the 12th century, it is sometimes referred to as Sri Jagannatha Dhama. The temple rises 214 feet in height. One of the first Char Dham pilgrimage centres for Hindus, it is.

Hindu god Lord Jagannath is revered by worshippers in India and all across the world. For all Hindus, but especially for those who follow the Vaishnava traditions, the temple is a hallowed place. Hindus believe that visiting Puri’s Pancha Tirtha, or five sacred bathing locations, is incomplete without taking a bath there. The Indradyumana Tank, the Rohini Kunda, the Markandeya Tank, the Swetaganga Tank, and the Bay of Bengal, also known as the Mahodadhi (‘Mahodadhi’ in Sanskrit means a “great ocean”), are the five sacred water basins that are all regarded as sacred bathing locations in the Swargadwar region.Rainfall and groundwater serve as dependable sources of supplies for these tanks. The “Ballighai beach, at the mouth of Nunai River” beach in Puri is 8 kilometres (5.0 miles) long. Sunrise and sunset are pleasant scenic attractions here. Waves break in at the beach which is long and wide.
