Rama-bibha, written by Arjuna-Das, is the first long poem in Oriya language. The Jagannatha Dasa Period, as it is more often known, follows and lasts until 1700. The writings of Shri Chaitanya, whose Vaishnava influence brought about a new evolution in Oriya literature, mark the beginning of the time frame.

Hindus celebrate the union of Rama and Sita at the city of Janakpurdham, which served as Mithila’s capital, on Vivaha Panchami. According to the Bikram Samvat Calendar, it is marked on the fifth day of the Shukla paksha, or waxing phase of the moon, in the Agrahayana month and in the Mangsir month. In temples and holy sites connected to Rama, such as the Mithila area of Nepal and Ayodhya in India, the day is observed as the Vivaha Utsava of Sita and Rama.
