Chittaranjan Das, also known as Deshbandhu (Friend of the Nation), was an Indian independence fighter, political activist, and attorney during the Indian Independence Movement. He also served as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s political mentor. Chittaranjan Das died on June 16, 1925. During the time of British colonial control in India, he was the founder and first leader of the Swaraj Party in undivided Bengal. He goes by the initials C. R. Das.In addition to several articles and essays, he was closely affiliated with a number of literary clubs and composed poetry.Chittaranjan Das participated actively in Anushilan Samiti’s operations. As president of the Samiti, Pramatha Mitter arranged it to generate hundreds of young firebrands willing to give their lives for the good of the country. Chittaranjan became his associate. Anushilan Samiti was maintained by P. Mitter with the assistance of Chittaranjan Das (1894), Haridas Bose (1895), Suren Haldar (1900) and Manabendra Nath Roy (1901).
