Anwesha first appeared in September 1998 as a quarterly magazine. It aimed to prepare ground for discussion, analysis and interaction dealing with common man’s existencial struggle against the established power structure. It tried to keep the common man in centre and not act as a mouthpiece for any particular ideology or grouping. It tried to explore various social, political, economic and cultural movements involving the common man. Anwesha moved ahead with its stated objectives till 2010, although it had started becoming irregular by the year 2008. Then it stopped publication completely between 2011 and 2016. The major reasons behind this were not getting enough quality writings in a timely manner and the involvement of the managerial-editorial team in different people’s movements leading to their inability to spare time for the magazine. Financial difficulties also played a role in its stoppage of publication.
