God Jagganath is adored by Bandhu Mohanty. He begs to survive while sharing a home with his wife and kids. He travels to Puri with his wife and kids when there is a famine in the hamlet. They soon have nowhere to get food. Bandhu prays to god, who answers his prayer when his wife asks him to do so in order to stop their famine. In response to the pleas of his followers, Jagganath invokes Goddess Lakshmi to provide for their necessities.

His region experienced a drought once, and people were perishing for want of food. The people in the villages where Bandhu Mohanty went to ask for charity had no food at all; how could they give it to him? Without any nourishment, he made his way back to his residence while thinking about the Lord. His wife informed him that the kids were starving to death. They had to stop putting up with their hunger. Don’t you have a family who can assist us in this trying time, she enquired? Let’s depart from here and get to the location where your relatives are residing. I don’t have any family to aid me, but I do have a buddy, Bandhu Mohanty retorted. But He is alive. He is the best among all the people. There is no one equal to him. He lives in Sri Kshetra Pun dham. If some how or other we can man¬age to reach him, our problems will be solved.” His wife was very happy to hear this. She said, “Then let us go there immediately. I will carry one child. You will carry the other. Let us go there now without any delay. Otherwise all of us will die.” Bandhu Mohanty was very happy to hear this from his wife. He thought it would be very nice to go to Sri Kshetra and take darshan of Lord Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra.
