The historic Paika Revolt of 1847 in Khurda was led by Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Mohapatra Bhramarbar Ray. He was the Rodhanga landowner and was chosen as the Senapati by the Khurda monarch. In actuality, the Buxi-led population of Khurda raised their voice in opposition to the British Empire’s restrictions on salt, high taxes, and unlawful incursion on tax-free territory. In addition to this, Krushna Singh engaged in a plot against him by registering all of Buxi’s landed property rights in his brother’s name. This sparked a revolt, and Buxi served as its Sardar.
