Dr. Radhanath Rath was born on 6 December 1896, in the village Radhanathpur Shashan of Aathgarh state in a poor family. His father was Pandit Jagannath Mishra and Kamala Devi, an illustrious lady was his mother. After early education in his traditional village school, he had his minor education in the Jubilee School, Balasore where his uncle Loknath Mohapatra was a Sanskrit teacher. Finally, he was matriculated in 1916 from Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Cuttack in the first division, but financial constraints in the family dissuaded him from college education.
