On June 21, 1922, Surendra Mohanty was born in Odisha.He was an Indian writer who used the Odia language. For his book Nilashaila, he was given the Central Sahitya Academy Award.He was not just a litterateur but also involved in politics. He belonged to the Ganatantra Parishad. On the Ganatantra parishad ticket, he was chosen as a member of parliament in 1957 from Dhenkanal. Later, he joined the Utkal Congress, and in 1971, he ran for office in the Kendrapada constituency.
From 1981 to 1987, he served as the Odisha Sahitya Academy’s president. Additionally, he served as The Sambad’s initial editor and eventually chief editor.He writes biographies, critiques, travelogues, short stories, and novels. He produced almost 50 books of various genres. Mahanagarira Ratri, Maralara Mrutyu, Andha Diganta, and Mahanirvana are some of his best-known works.His most well-known short stories include Yadubamsa O Anyaanya Galpa, Rajadhani O Anyaanya Galpa, Krushnachuda, and Ruti O Chandra.
