In the Ganjam district of Odisha, the well-known Danda Nacha or Danda Naata is acknowledged as the area’s historic and religious folk dance. Every year, in the summer Hindu month of Chaitra, the Danduas leave for Danda Jatra. They now experience bodily suffering as a result of their rigid religious lifestyle. The people in the Ganjam region have great faith in it. Thirteen days, 18 days, or 21 days before Bishuba Sankranti, the Ganjam Danda Jatra begins. A Dandua group begins the Jatra for those days after taking the oath for either 21, 18, or 13 days.

Danduas may be seen in groups at this time of year in a number of settings, including villages and the Ganjam area. Folk dance performances accompanied by the Dhol and Mahuri are also common in the region. Sacred flags and saffron garments were worn by the Danduas when they travelled from one place to another. The Danduas departed for Danda Jatra after carrying out a special worship ceremony at the Goddess Kali temple in their separate zones under the leadership of the patabhukta. They return to the same temple to formally terminate the Danda Jatra on the Sankranti day after the conclusion of the Jatra.
