The brata is devoted to “Dutivahana” (Son of a Brahmin Woman), who is believed to be a manifestation of Shashti Mata and the son of Lord Surya. The name of this osha is Dutia, Dvitiya, or Dwitiya osha. On Krishna Paksha Ashtami in the lunar month of Aswina, women observe this Osha for their son.
One of the well-known Osha seen in Odisha is called Dwitibahan Osha, Dutiya Osha, Pua Jiuntia Osha, or Jimutabahan Osha. Every year, on the day of Aswina Krushna Astami or Mula Astami, “Dutiya Osha” or “Dwitibahan Osha” is observed. Mothers follow this osha (together with a day-long, total fast called “Nirjwala Upabasa”) in order to ask Lord “Dutibahana” for the blessing of their sons’ long life and wealth.
