On June 6, 1912, in the villages of Mallipur and Cuttack in the provinces of Bihar and Orissa, British India, Kanungo was born.He was Keshub Chandra Kanungo and Peera Dei’s lone child. He had his elementary education in the village of Naganpur and his secondary education at Cuttack’s renowned Ranihat Highschool, where he was the school’s first-ever pupil. He subsequently received a scholarship to attend Ravenshaw Collegiate School. He was in Class X when Mahatma Gandhi called him to join the Indian Freedom Movement, which motivated him to stop his studies.
