In 1932, in the Kendrapara district’s Shyamsundarpur, the great academician Mohanty was born. He received his early education at Cuttack’s illustrious PM Academy. He also finished his education at Ravenshaw College, Leeds University in the UK, and Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages in Hyderabad.
Before moving on to teach at BJB College, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur University, and Utkal University, where he eventually left in 1992, English professor Mohanty began his career as a lecturer at Ravenshaw Colleg.
For his work on the Odia poem “Suryashnata,” he was awarded the 2003 Central Sahitya Akademi Award, which established him as a respected critic and editor. He also produced more than 200 essays and more than 20 books, including studies on the canon and development of Odia literature.
Mohanty edited the Bhubaneswar Review’s English and Odia editions in addition to receiving fellowships from the Central Institute of Indian Languages and scholarships from the British Council. He worked extensively with the Central Sahitya Academy and the Odisha Sahitya Academy.
