Istahar, published in 1974, occupies a special position among the odia magazines published after 1950. The first issue of Istahar, published in 1974, was edited by Bhagirathi Sahu presented a selection of modern Odia poetry. The regular issues of the magazine started appearing in 1978 and were edited by Nityanand Satapathy. These have covered various aspects of Odia literature with an emphasis on both creative analytical pieces. Poetry, essay, criticism and book review were among its regular offerings.
