From 2009 to 2014, Indian politician Janaki Ballabh Patnaik served as the 25th Governor of Assam.He served as Chief Minister of Odisha for the longest period of time before Naveen Patnaik from 1980 to 1989 and again from 1995 to 1999. He was a prominent member of the Indian National Congress. He was elected president of the Congress’s youth wing’s Odisha state chapter in 1950. He was appointed Union Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Labour in 1980, serving from January to June.As a Sanskrit Odia scholar, he left behind the heritage of having translated the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, and the Bhagavad Gita into his own tongue.
