Panikia Malika is a prominent Odia book that holds great cultural and literary significance. Authored by renowned poet and writer Godabarisha Mohapatra, the book is a collection of lyrical poems that beautifully capture the essence of Odia folk culture and celebrate the beauty of nature.

Godabarisha Mohapatra, who is also known as “Gopabandhu Das of poetry,” was a multifaceted personality. He was not only a poet but also a journalist, social reformer, and freedom fighter. His work focused on various themes like patriotism, social equality, love, and spirituality. Panikia Malika is considered one of his masterpieces as it encapsulates his deep love for his motherland, Odisha.

The book is divided into six sections, each representing a different aspect of Odia culture and spirituality. The first section, “Mausima Padagita,” comprises poems dedicated to Mother Earth, symbolizing the deep connection between nature and human existence. In these poems, the author expresses his gratitude towards nature for providing sustenance and life.

The second section, “Rasa Ratna Charcha,” explores the essence of Odissi dance, one of the classical dance forms of India. Through vivid and evocative descriptions, the author portrays the richness and elegance of this art form, emphasizing its ability to touch hearts and evoke various emotions.

The third section, “Saraneswara Stuti,” is a collection of devotional hymns and praises to Lord Shiva. Godabarisha Mohapatra’s devotion towards Lord Shiva is apparent in these poems, which beautifully express his faith and seek spiritual enlightenment.

The fourth section, “Eka Desha Eka Phula,” delves into the regional customs, traditions, and folklore of Odisha. The author celebrates the cultural diversity of the state, highlighting various rituals, festivals, and folk tales that make Odisha unique.

The fifth section, “Prema Bichitra,” delves into the theme of love in its various forms, including romantic love, love for humanity, and unconditional love for one’s country. These poems are filled with emotions, passion, and the author’s deep understanding of human relationships.

The final section, “Agni Agunara Veeragatha,” reflects the spirit of nationalism and pays homage to the sacrifices made by freedom fighters for the country’s independence. Godabarisha Mohapatra’s patriotic fervor is evident in these poems as he celebrates the courage and heroism of these brave souls.

Panikia Malika is not just a collection of poems but also a cultural treasure. It has played a vital role in enriching and promoting the Odia language and literature. The book continues to inspire and captivate readers with its beautiful verses, vivid descriptions, and profound thoughts on various aspects of life and culture.
