The famous novelist and short story writer from Odisha, Gopinath Mohanty (1914–91). His works Paraja and Danapani are contemporary masterpieces that have been translated into several languages. For his book Amrutara Santaan, he received the Sahitya Akademi Prize in 1955. In 1974, he received the Jnanpith Prize; in 1981, the Padma Bhushan. Gopinath Mohanty was a scholar of exceptional skill; for instance, his study articles on Sarola Dasa’s Odia MAHABHARATA have revealed new aspects of this masterpiece, especially in relation to the period in which it was written ( not 15th. but 10th. century according to Gopinath ).
