On July 2, 1901, Kalindi Charan was born in Biswanathpur, Puri District. His parents were Saraswati Panigrahi and Swapneswar Panigrahi. His father was a lawyer who fought for freedom. He went to Puri Zilla School to study. After high school, he attended Ravenshaw College in Cuttack to further his education. This marked the beginning of his literary career. He founded the group while he was a student at Ravenshaw College. He created a handwritten magazine together with his writing club mates called, which was eventually renamed to. In 1920, a group called was founded by Kalindi Charana Panigrahi, the younger brother of Bhagabati Charana Panigrahi, who started the Marxist movement in Odisha.
Annada Shankar Ray and Baikuntha Patnaik, two of his literary pals, were also participants.
