Aswini Kumar Ghose was a committed figure in Oriya theatre. An Indian playwright from Odisha named Aswini Kumar Ghose lived from 1892 to 1962. He is well-known in Odia literature for his historical dramas that he wrote in the language and were based on famous Indian historical figures like Tipu Sultan and Kalapahad.

The oldest child of Akshyaya Kumar Ghose and Sundaramanu Devi, he was born in 1892. He spent the most of his childhood at Cuttack’s Chodhury Bazar. In Cuttack, he finished his primary schooling. He successfully completed the F.A. (intermediate) test at Ravenshaw College in Cuttack. His next journey was to Culcutta, where he enrolled at Vidyasagar College. He went back to Cuttack due to health issues and graduated from Ravenshaw College with a B.A. in 1914. He was unable to quickly start his studies because his father passed away in the same year. Later, he was awarded a private candidate M.A. in Mathematics from Patna University.

Ghose wrote many plays in the Oriya language. About 25 plays by Ghose were centred on diverse societal issues. In 1915, while still in school, he wrote his first play, Bhisma. Ravenshaw College Dramatic Society performed it.
