On January 13, 1843, Fakir Mohan Senapati was born at Mallikashpur, Balasore. Laxman Charan Senapati and Tulsi Devi Senapati, members of a Khandayat family, were his parents. At the young age of one year and five months, he lost his father, who passed away in Bhubaneswar from cholera.
