Mahamahopaddyaya Chandrasekhar Sinha Samanta (1835–1904), better known to the Odias as Pathani Samanta, was a skilled observer of the heavens with the naked eye. He was one of the few so-called “Siddhantic” astronomers who had lived and operated far after the acknowledged Siddhantic era. He was an astronomer who lived and worked at an era when other places were using cutting-edge equipment. Gopal Chandra Praharaj (1872-1945), who assembled this enormous dictionary containing a significant amount of encyclopaedic material, had it published between 1931 and 1940. Over 1,85,000 root words are presented, along with their meanings in Bengali and Hindi, along with their equivalents in Odia and English, on approximately 10,000 pages spread across seven volumes.
