Additionally known as Teeja Brata, “Bali Trutiya Osha” In Odisha, married women follow this fast. On the third day of Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrab month (which typically comes one day before Ganesh Chaturthi), the Bali Trutiya/Tritiya event takes place. This puja is performed in honour of Parvathi and Lord Shiva. It is a common belief in the state of Odisha that goddess Parvathi observed this vrata (fasting) in order to win the hand of Lord Shiva.
A group of women participate in this ceremony by fasting, and after taking a bath in the evening, they collect river sand to make a Shiva linga and Shakti for puja.Bali is the native name for sand in Odisha. Due of this, the celebration is known as Bali Trutiya.in a few places like Puri, unmarried women also keeps this vrata/fast.Bali Trutiya is similar to the Hartalika Teej bhrat observed in other parts of India.
