In the western portion of the Cuttack District, Banki was a zamindari state.In the state’s northern region, the Mahanadi River ran. The British occupied it and annexed it in 1840. 56,900 people called Banki home in 1881. Banki’s kings and queens were known as Rajas.
The daughter of the king of Badamba, Rajkumari Sukadei, was married to the king of Banki. The monarch of Banki was challenged to battle by the king of Khurda. Sukadei became a widow when the conflict claimed the life of Banki’s king. She resolved to exact revenge on the king of Khurda for the passing of her spouse. To win the battle, she enlisted the aid of her brother, the prince of Badamba. She overcame the ruler of Khurda but refrained from killing him.
