An Odia-language biography titled “Bhikari Charana Patnaik” was written by Sricharana Mohanty and released in 2000.Oriya theatrical dramatist Bhikari Charan Patnaik was one among them. He made several efforts to change Oriya society. He was a lawyer by profession and was born in 1877. In 1901, he composed his debut drama, Engrez kartrika Kataka vijaya (also known as “Conquest of Cuttack by the British”). This quickly achieved success. Shakespearean style, which was then popular in Orissa’s educated population, was used to write this historical drama. Patnaik accurately re-created history while hardly using his creativity. But he expertly incorporated the in-depth accounts of historical occurrences into a musical beat.

The well-known contemporary Oriya poet Radhanath Ray’s poem of the same name was authentically dramatised in his Nandikeswari in 1915. Perhaps Patnaik was inspired to dramatise it by its sorrowful nature. He mostly adhered to the original in this instance as well. It had its debut in 1916 at the Usha Pandal, a community theatre in Cuttack. The Kanika Rajbati Pandal hosted the world premiere of Patnaik’s third play, Ratnamali in 1915, the same year. This work was original. By this point, he had perfected the craft of revolving a cast of people around a cleverly devised story that was rich in moral lessons.
