This is the first collection of short stories I have translated that will be published. The fact that the author of these stories himself has such faith in me makes me feel fortunate. Prof. Chandrasekhar Rath went through the manuscript and provided helpful suggestions. He occasionally lost his cool when I veered off topic a little from the text. At times, he tripped over himself to praise me. The author and the translator had a love-hate relationship the entire time the project was in development. J frequently threw up my hands in desperation and considered abandoning the entire thing. Everytime. I was saved by Prof. Rath from falling. Lam is indebted to him in numerous ways.

For me, during the time I was working on the translation, the characters in the stories ended up being members of an extended family. Many of the characters still make occasional appearances, in a sense. After the work was finished, there was a note of regret combined with a sigh of relief. Again going through the same thing wouldn’t bother me.
