Many people today believe that Kalidas, a Classical Sanskrit author, was the finest dramatist and poet of ancient India. The Vedas, the Rmyaa, the Mahbhrata, and the Puraas are the main inspirations for his plays and poems.Three plays, two epic poems, and two shorter poems are all that are left of his writings.

He often authored epic-length poetry in the traditional Sanskrit language. His works were incorporated into performing arts including dance and music. The renowned author Kalidasa lived at Pataliputra (present-day Patna), in Chandragupta’s palace. He was one of Chandragupta’s court’s jewels. Legend has it that Kalidasa was born with beautiful beauty. He met a princess because of this, and they fell in love. Kalidas was rejected by the princess because of his lack of intelligence and wit.Kalidasa He then prayed to Goddess Kali, who bestowed upon him intelligence and wisdom, making him one of the “nine gems” in Chandragupta’s court.
