Most parts of Odisha including Cuttack came under British rule in 1803 AD. From that time till now, the history of Odisha and the Odisha-speaking region under the British rule and the rule of independent India has progressed through suffering, despair and efforts to reach the present state. The major missionary journal “Gyanyarun” published from Mahayana, especially the Utkal Deepika published in August 1866 by the Cuttack Printing Company established in 1865, the news carrier published in 1868 from Balasore, the Sambalpur Hitishini published in 1982 from Bamanda and most of the journals are now inaccessible and rare.
