Rabindra Mohan Das was one of those political leaders who believed freedom’s purpose was incomplete without socialism. His seminal contribution to the growth of the socialist movement and freedom struggle is therefore fondly remembered by the people.

He was born on 12 February 1912 in Balasore he joined the freedom struggle at the age of seventeen while he was continuing his studies in high school. The call of Mahatma Gandhi to join the Civil Disobedience Movement and Salt Satyagraha in 1930 could not confine him to the four walls of the classroom and he set out to join the march to Inchudi with a group of freedom fighters to manufacture salt by defying the salt law. He was therefore rusticated from the school and was arrested and sentenced to one and half months imprisonment. But after his release, he again renewed his activities for which he was arrested in 1932 and sentenced to two months imprisonment. But after being released he again started the satyagraha for which he was arrested in 1933 and sentenced to six months imprisonment.
