There has been modern Oriya literature for nearly a century.However, the socio-cultural and political circumstances that existed in Orissa near the end of the 19th century and encouraged the development of literary tendencies have changed so drastically since Independence in the previous 30 years that it feels as though one has arrived in a new nation. Nobody has yet evaluated these changes and the degree to which they have impacted literature growth, nor has anybody offered any insightful analysis of the new literature’s characteristics. The term “Oriyan creative mind” no longer has the same meaning it did prior to Independence.
