There has been modern Oriya literature for nearly a century.However, the socio-cultural and political circumstances that existed in Orissa near the end of the 19th century and encouraged the development of literary tendencies have changed so drastically since Independence in the previous 30 years that it feels as though one has arrived in a new nation.
