This volume contains twelve short stories of Kisho-“haran Das, a leading Oriya.story writer, who has adequate’v established his credentials among the contemporary Indian authors in the field. The stories included here are largely socio-centric and deal with the working of the human mind in inter-personal Situations. To this extent this volume is Tepresentative of a large body of his short stories, written over twenty-five years, though the entire variety is not Present. Some of these stories were earlier included in highly respectable Publications like Penguin Books’ New Writing in India, CCR’s Modern Indian Short Stories etc.

Regarding the theme of his stories,the author says, “I may apologise for my class-origins: urban, middle-class and intellectual. For the stories, alas,are apt to reveal this fact. The best I could do was to remember Sartre and avoid committing ‘bad faith’ with my readers,”
