“My Writing, My Times” was the focus of a recent dialogue at a sizable all-Indian authors’ conference in Alwaye, Kerala, where I, too, had contributed and relieved myself of my burdens. Yet, the issue is generally present in practically all of the speeches and articles that are included in this collection, which is a selection from my literary engagements in India and abroad over the past 20 years. The tone and tenor of this volume are formed by my own perspective on life and myself, which I have attempted to project in my writings (or have failed to do so). This is true even though I have been faithful to the facts of literary history as suggested. Maybe it’s a luxury I’ve given myself in my ego as a writer. Nonetheless, I do hope that it will continue to be interesting to my readers and occasionally touch a chord of empathy in their brains and hearts.
