This is the third volume of The National Bibliography of Indian Literature (1901-1953), of which the first and second volumes were published in 1962 and 1966, The compilation, editing and publication of this Bibliography in four volumes covering fifteen Indian Languages and English is perhaps the most difficult and monumental project undertaken by Sahitya Akademi.
The first two volumes had covered eight languages in alphabetical order: Vol.I: Assamese, Bengali, English and Gujarati; Vol. II: Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri and Malayalam. The present volume covers four more Indian languages, namely Marathi, Oriya, Panjabi and Sanskrit. The remaining four languages, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, will be covered in the concluding volume which is under preparation and will shortly go to press.
